Asian American and Pacific Islanders turned out in record numbers for the 2020 presidential election. The group has become a powerful political force in Georgia, where races are being decided on a razor’s edge. The traditionally conservative state went for Joe Biden in 2020 by just 12,000 votes. It sent two Democrats to Congress in a runoff a few months later. With Asian Americans being the fastest-growing segment of eligible voters out of the nation’s major racial and ethnic groups, mobilizing the Asian American vote could be key to either party winning future races.

In the weeks before Jan. 5 2021 runoff, I followed Democratic and nonpartisan groups working to mobilize the Asian American vote. One of the images was featured in Time.
